Beginning next week, Noel Brohner from Slow Rise Pizza Co will be launching a series of free bi-monthly online sourdough pizza classes aimed at teaching everyone from professionals to home bakers the science of sourdough. Every other Monday from 5:00-6:00pm PT, Noel will be inviting different special guests to help explain the growing science around sourdough: scientists, doctors, nutritionists, farmers, bakers, millers, brewers, authors, and more.
Brewers and bakers have a long history of working together. Before the availability of commercial yeast, many bakers relied upon brewers for the barm or what we now call “brewers yeast” to leaven their breads and pizzas. So what better guest panelist to start this series off with than one of Noel’s favorite local craft brewers and best friends?
Jon Porter from Smog City Brewing Co in Torrance, CA will be the opening special guest for this online series of free Zoom webinars. Not only is Porter an award winning craft brewer with a broad range of talents and interests, but he’s also a long-time amateur home baker.
Whether you come armed with questions or just want to listen and learn, all levels are welcome.
